Housing Stability Presentation by Danielle Werder, MSW, Deputy Director- Office of Housing Stability
Independence Day, known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States which commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.
Richard Henry Lee of Virginia, in June declared the United States independent from Great Britain's rule.
Thomas Jefferson was asked to write the first draft of the Declaration of Independence.
Most families often celebrate Independence Day by hosting or attending a picnic, parade or barbecue.
Fireworks displays are held in the evening, at parks, sporting venues, fairgrounds, backyards or concerts.

We are hosting a community Health fair on July 1st at the YMCA on Broadway.
We are especially inviting our senior population to come for free hearing and eye screenings. If necessary, we will also have the Helen Keller Institute there to provide free eyeglasses. You must register if you need glasses. You can register at clarencejones7428@gmail.com or (612) 759-2170. There are limited slots available. HNC will provide goodies bags with hygiene products for our older youth and snacks for the young youth.
We need to pull together and support our youth. It takes a village to raise a child!
As we continue moving through a busy summer season, I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to stay engaged, attend community events, and share concerns and ideas about the future of our neighborhoods.
Heritage Park: From Conversation to Action
Our work surrounding Heritage Park continues. Following our recent community discussion, we are bringing key stakeholders together to focus on accountability, action plans, and next steps. This effort is about more than buildings, it is about restoring trust, improving quality of life, and ensuring residents have safe, stable housing opportunities. We remain committed to keeping residents informed as this work moves forward.
Looking Ahead
Meaningful change requires all of us. Whether it's supporting our youth, strengthening our neighborhoods, addressing housing challenges, or simply showing up for one another, every resident has a role to play in shaping the future of Ward 5. As always, thank you for your continued engagement and partnership. Together, we will continue building a safer, stronger, and more connected community.
