One of HNC program priorities is creating and maintaining a safe community for all of our residents to enjoy. The Crime Prevention and Family Safety Committee was developed to address livability issues in our neighborhood.
The Crime Prevention and Family Safety Committee takes the lead in Hawthorne to encourage and implement numerous community strategies to keep the neighborhood informed of crime-related issues and ways to encourage a safe and peaceful environment for residents, businesses, visitors and students.
Well-known programs of the Crime Prevention and Family Safety Committee include support for National Night Out, the CanDo Book Giveaway, Clean Sweep and meetings with non-profit and grassroots organizers to bring great family programs to the neighborhood, and police buy-back programs to bring off-duty police officers to specific blocks to assist residents in community development.
Each monthly meeting of the Crime Prevention and Family Safety Committee includes a briefing of previous crimes and successes in fighting crime in the neighborhood. The Crime Prevention and Family Safety Committee also sponsors numerous positive programs through block club grants to meet the unique and varied interests of Hawthorne Block Clubs.
The Crime & Safety Committee meets every second Tuesday of each month at Farview Park at 7 PM.
